Still in Sydney.

The next leg of the trip is looking better as some things that have needed to be settled have been getting firmer.

The surf is still small, and I have spent most of the day at the internet cafe trying to work out some stuff.

I am looking at schools in New Zealand, trying to find work, catching up on emails and updating this site.

There are still a few days left in the hovel. Then I’m not sure what, maybe go try to find some better surf and probably leave Sydney.

Today went surfing in Bondi Beach. I caught some good small waves on a second hand board I bought here. Much better than the awful board I bought from Byron Bay Surfboards, which was a total piece of crap. I had forgotten how bad it was, but that was because I hadn’t been on a good board for a while. I can turn again! Plus, the guarantee that came with that board was a total lie, and I’ll write more about that later, let it suffice to say for the moment that the shaper is a complete liar.

At any rate: the house I am staying in is a bit dingy.

More like student housing in college. But it is cheap and near the beach.

Australia is ok, so far. The animals are really cool. Not just the major ones like kangaroos and koalas,

but also the birds. Lorakeets are really cool. And the bats are enormous!

Rented a room in a house in Bondi.

Woo!

(Actually it is a pit, a student hovel, but it is something. Cheaper than a hostel and close to the beach.)

Arrived today in Sydney.

It is chilly, and lost a C-Note. Not sure how.

More later.

Leaving Bali with a sour taste in my mouth. Two broken boards, one broken promise from the board shaper. Oh well.

Got some good waves. I’m sure I’ll look back on it with nothing but fondness, in a few days.

Here is a picture of the peanut man at Nusa Dua.

Surf has gone flat after a few good days at Balanagan.

Re-rented the scooter for another month. I have scored some perfect waves, the sun is out, all is good.

Here is a picture of Balangan, firing.

Nyepi is over.

The Hindu day of Nyepi, a day of rest and silence ended, and now everyone is now allowed to leave their house again. Before the day, the island’s banjar’s (communities) made monsters to scare the spirits off the island, then everyone turned off the lights so the ghosts couldn’t find their way back. The monsters were really cool, and I will have photos soon.

The surf is small and choppy and it has been raining for three days.

I have gotten some good waves and, one day it was so big I pulled the leash plug through the bottom of my board. The repair took hours, so that was quickly rectified. It was huge, probably the biggest waves I have ever seen.
