I’ll be hog-tied!

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I have decided to speak using words like “hootenanny” and
“cockamamie” maybe even “flimflam”.

This will probably get me in trouble someday.

I think we are going to find, with the passage of time, that George
Bush and his cronies are some of the biggest criminals in history.
First, they disrupted the flow of oil to create record-breaking
profits for their corporate bedfellows. Then Bush and Co. invaded a
sovereign nation under false pretenses of their having Weapons Of
Mass Destruction when WE have weapons of mass destruction; then, when
that didn’t hold up and we found that they didn’t have the weapons,
Bush Inc. hopped to the other foot saying what they really wanted to
do was bring “democracy” to the people of Iraq. Democracy is a
government based upon the will of the people. We the people didn’t
vote about whether or not we should invade Iraq, but the entire
process was a lie from start to finish anyway. I think that the
flouting of the Geneva Conventions (Guantanamo) and
“liberating” (read: invading, or pillaging oil from) other countries
without the consent of the UN Security Council are both actions which
are illegal. There were laws agreed upon and Bush chose to ignore
them, or claim that they didn’t apply.
I just hope that when history catches up with these kleptocrats they
get a long trip to the prison system that has flourished under their
regime.
Not just Kenneth Lay (who will be pardoned at the last minute of
Bush’s term anyway), or some other Bush underling. I want them all
to go to jail, it would set a good precedent for other leaders who
want to exploit power for their own gain. Bush is just a mouthpiece
anyway, the real brains behind the operation need to be caught as well.

Oil Holes

Monday, June 26th, 2006

Just out of curiosity, when they pump these millions of barrels of
oil out of the ground, what fills in the holes?
Especially in places like the world’s largest oil field, Ghawar in
Saudi Arabia, which produces 4.5 millions of barrels per day.
The water doesn’t leak into the ground and fill the holes, Ghawar is
in the desert.
Are we making Swiss Cheese under our feet?
Maybe I’m just ignorant, but I’ve never heard anyone address the issue.
I know that this isn’t that important in relation to the fact that
there isn’t an unlimited supply of oil and we will run out someday,
but what about the holes!?!
What if they make sinkholes and craters? That could be bad!

"Books and books and books" or "I am a nerd"

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

I am reading about 5 books at the same time right now. Which is
pretty normal. I have also taken an interest in the Semantic Web and
its ramifications. It seems like the evolving web ontologies will
help to create a system of data interchange that will enable computers
to share data cooperatively, understand the data and then use it
independently. I know that sounds weird, but it is going to be really
cool when it happens. Honest.

Planet Hollywood

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

The entire entertainment industry is evil. Actually, it could be the fact that it has the ability to exist that is evil. These are a bunch of people that don’t create any tangible product. They market themselves and then they are worshipped and to top it off, they give themselves awards. It is pretty sick. Or maybe I am just bitter because I’m not a superstar.

All of the news in England, and I’m sure the States if I owned a t.v. when I lived there, seems to be about “stars”. It is such a waste of airspace when there are real things to talk about. You could educate people about things other than who has gotten fat, or married, or some other crap. But I guess it is what “the people” want, and thus sells advertising space, etc. But even the BBC which is publicly funded talks about celebrities. There is no excuse for that except that is what the people want. Which brings me back to my point, the fact that the industry “can” exist is evil.

However I do give Brad and Angelina credit (See I am on a first name basis with them. ), at least they are bringing attention to sub-Saharan Africa, specifically Namibia. Maybe it will draw public focus to plight of the Sudanese, or Liberians or a host of other poor and war-ravished countries. Why do I even know this about Brad and Angelina? Because it is
unavoidable in the media, and the media is unavoidable. I give up.

I shit on Hollywood.

Fertility Treatment

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

This sounds fundamentally insane, but this is the news. They are
going to give in vitro fertilization for free to more people on the
NHS because a baby born through this method generates about 147,000
pounds in their lifetime. While a baby conceived naturally generates
about 160,000 pounds. So giving people fertility treatment is
supposed to save the UK pension scheme. More babies need to be born
through any means necessary so that we can retire to the Costa del
Sol and shrivel. It sounds like some kind of Brave New World scenario.

Games People Play

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

I am in the middle of a book called “Games People Play”, by Eric
Berne. It is about the subconscious psychological games that people
play in human relationships. It is fascinating. Have you ever been
in an argument and felt like you were in a script? For example, I’m
angry enough to say “this”, but not at the level of anger that I need
to say “that”. This book takes these scripts apart. Since childhood
we are taught games and how to play them. These games create
transactions between individuals that are used in order to gain
advantage or “strokes” from other individuals.
Sounds very sensible.
The fact that the games are actually taken apart and analyzed and
understood in this book is amazing. I am already starting to spot
these games being played in normal everyday events. The book tells
you how to stop them.

Shakira vs. Madonna

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

This is the beginning of the dumbest post I have ever put on my blog.
Here is the fight card:

In the blue corner, a Jersey girl with a chip on her shoulder and a fake British accent. She crucifies herself onstage and says it has something to do with AIDS or some crap. She confuses people and calls it art…. Madonna.

In the red corner, hailing from beautiful Colombia, speaking something like 5 languages, she does her own hair, pours oil on
herself to put sin in our hearts and yet still has girls singing her songs… Shakira.

Seriously though, Shakira is amazing. She knows exactly what the public wants and delivers. Personally, I also think she is smart enough to have planned it.

This is the end of the dumbest post I have put on my blog.
