Da Bomb

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

I was listening to Studio 360 and they had an interesting piece on the
making of the atomic bomb. Richard Rhodes talked on the show about
how the bomb, since it ended the war, was almost godlike; and as a
child it was something to be revered. I think it is also interesting,
in artistic terms, as the swansong of the Modern Age and the start of
the Post-Modern. This is demonstrated in two senses, the bomb.
First, this is the start of a new era of irrationality. Secondly,
God, treated as the creator of the world, is succeeded with man and
his ability to destroy the world. Everyone disagrees on when,
exactly, Post-Modernism arose, but I feel that this incredible display
of power indicates that the episode to begin here — with the use of
the atomic bomb on civilians.

The House in Order
It seems like the United States might finally be pulling out of it’s nosedive.
We can only hope that the Senate goes Democratic as well.

It is Sewer Diver in Mexico City.
I almost threw up. Really.

Leeches are the new … leeches.

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that leeches are going to be hot this spring.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a lot of practitioners get cauliflower ears.
In researching cures for this, summer camp sprung to mind.
Leeches.
Hirudo medicinalis.
For over 2000 years they were used in medicine, entering the "out" list in 1850. Well, leeches are back "in"!
There is a company in the UK, BioPharm, which I have been talking to about buying leeches.
They are in a little aquarium, are only fed once a year and make great pets!
See, my ears have been hurting and I don't want them to blow up like balloons.
Here is an interesting article about medicinal leeches.

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

We went and saw Calexico this weekend. Beirut was the opening act and both of the bands were very good. Beirut’s lead singer was really good at posing. You could tell he spent a lot of time in front of the mirror working on different pensive looks. Calexico was fantastic. I really enjoyed the show. Of course
we were a bit out of place because most of the people were wearing corduroy jackets and jeans. we must have not gotten the memo. I really enjoyed eating sandwiches and watching people go to get their VIP and Press tickets. Those people acted like they were the were really “cool”. They were the type of people that will make you wait while they make an asinine phone call. Of make you spend £20,000 on towels before they will check into your hotel. Blech.
