Lowest Common Denominator
I am not a mathematician. Those genes seem to have been entirely concentrated in other members of my family. However, I love language. I am really sick of people saying “Lowest Common Deonominator” in mass media. It is obvious they are echoing soundbytes and not referring to math(s). If anything, the mathematical term they want to talk about it the Greatest Common Factor. But that has the word “Great” in it. So you can’t use that. Can’t talk about the appeal of celebrity gossip, Paris Hilton and the word “Great” in the same sentence.
