Tuesday, February 27th, 2007"Valentimes" — Worst Holiday Ever…
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007I don’t <3 “Valentime’s Day”. I don’t want to sound like a curmudgeon, but this is the worst holiday ever. There is no day off of work, you are supposed to buy crap, and you can do the shopping at a gas station on your way home from work.
“Uh oh, gotta buy flowers.” Screech…
Also, one of my friends pointed out that it really discriminates against single people. With all the divisive issues in the world, do we really need to promote unfair holidays?
Paper?
Tuesday, February 13th, 2007Susi and I had our 1 (one) year anniversary today. Aw…
Busines as usual.
Tuesday, February 13th, 2007In another day at the office, the Belgian Court has determined that Google illegally copied news on their website. The interesting bit about this is that there is no actual proof that violating copyright actually harms authors’ livelihood. In fact, copyright was first enforced by the Worshipful Company of Stationers one of the Livery Companies of the City of London. This company was not an altruistic organization set aside to protect the rights of the starving artist. It was a monopoly created to squeeze profit from the printed word. Next time you hear someone spouting the party line about how, like Metallica, they are going broke because of file-sharing, remember artist make almost nothing because the neo-Guilds are still running the show under the banner of flag of corporate logos.
Oh yeah, and copyright is always becoming stricter and stricter. No court ever rules against the corporate interests. (That’s the whole “business as usual” part.) Oh yeah, and what was up with Metallica, those hard-rocking heroes, whining about their lost profits. Oooh, they are so tough. So dangerous…
Tamarind
Monday, February 12th, 2007Susi and I went to Tamarind today. This is a Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in London. We had the tasting menu and it was incredible. I am going to put it online when I get a chance.
Snow!
Thursday, February 8th, 2007It is snowing like crazy in London!
Normally it is kind of weak, icy stuff. But this is great big flakes! Ski resort type snow. The roads are all covered and people are driving/sliding around like crazy.
Because I am a nerd bodysnatcher.
Wednesday, February 7th, 2007Because I am a nerd, I am excited about the new Google Toolbar 3 (beta) for Firefox. I spend most of my waking hours in front of a monitor looking at Firefox. Oh God, that sounds depressing. I guess it beats being a bodysnatcher.
I was reading last night about how, in Victorian times, stealing freshly dead bodies from their graves was actually pretty well paid. There was a distinct lack of corpses for anatomy classes. This was due in no small part to the fact that your body, the one they stuck in the ground, was the one you got when you were resurrected. i.e. a body buried with no head or no guts results an eternity of walking into things and indigestion. So, since people didn’t want to be chopped up, there was a great business digging them up and selling them to medical schools.
Don’t ask where I find this stuff.
A bunch of weirdos, that’s who…
Tuesday, February 6th, 2007I just looked at a new toy on the Google webmaster page to see who was linking to my site(s). Looks like a bunch of weirdos, that’s who. You know who you are, and I love ya!
Nah, ok. That’s only partly true. There are some really sane and upright global citizens linking to my site. I’ll stop the tomfoolery. Thanks for linking to me. Huzzah!
Check out Google’s shiny new Official toy.
A walk….
Sunday, February 4th, 2007Susi and I walked from our flat in Hammersmtih to just past Oxford Circus today. It was a pretty far walk and a really nice day for it. It was good to see London on foot. Or at least West London.
We walked through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park and stopped at the Serpentine Museum (but it was between shows).
We bumped into two(2) jiu-jitsu people on our day out. It was good to see them but a bit strange that in a city of N million people we saw two that we knew.
There were Indian Ringneck Parakeets flying around Kensington Gardens. These are big green birds from India that were soaring around in the leafless trees.
Bear Papa
Saturday, February 3rd, 2007There is a new store on Oxford Street.
Beard Papa
It is a store that sells cream puffs.
Now, I had never had a cream puff. I just thought it was a gangster slang term from the 40’s.
I had two. hey are very good. It is like a Japanese Krispy Kreme. But they are not as bad for you, and there is no waterfall of glaze.
