Açaí, Chicken Hearts and Voodoo.

Today we went to some of Susi’s co-workers gated community for a churrasca. It was a lot of meat, as per the norm. I ate a few chicken hearts which are very popular here. They taste pretty good, but I don’t think I’ll be getting any at the supermarket. The kids at the BBQ were eating them like they were candy. “Yum, more chicken hearts please!” Never thought I would have heard that. It tastes like chicken, only meatier, and with a stranger texture.

I have found my favorite food in the world.

Honestly, I could eat just Açaí Na Tigela for the rest of my life. Oh and some Sriracha. Maybe I should combine the two and see what the flavor profile is like. I have been trying a lot of Açaí sorbets and this one also has the best texture as well as taste. It isn’t too icy.  It doesn’t have a crunch but is very dense.

We also went to the market to day where Susi bought some voodoo soaps. I don’t think that she is really hoping that using it will bring good luck, or a more handsome man, like the boxes advertise, but she gets them because the boxes are crazy looking. They must have a lot of fun designing them. I’ll see if I can get some photos up. Perhaps alongside the racist snacks and candy.

By the way, this is the lid to the pot. If you see it, you should try it:

I’m always hearing about the health benefits of acai, thanks to the BJJ, so will be interesting to see if that has any kind of positive impact on your diet. Supposed to be one of those superfoods IIRC (though that should shortly stop being such a buzzword in advertising as I heard standards are clamping down on it, unless the company can back things up with scientific evidence).

I’ve only ever had it as part of an Innocent smoothie: bit too pricey to import over there, though I was tempted by those big freezer packs. Fightworks Podcast to blame again, as they did a whole show on it a while back.

Seems to be doing great for me so far. I’ve been eating a of meat and I think the Acai is the only thing keeping my heart from exploding. I’ve looked at some of the evidence of Acai being a “superfood” and it is actually pretty compelling. I don’t think anyone can afford Innocent Smoothies. After the conversion from pound to Real, I think I could buy a car for the same price.

Heh – yeah, Innocent are kinda overpriced. I was having loads of them in the run up to the Bristol Open, though: could just about get one on my lunch allowance at work. Of course, that means I could only have that and a sandwich. Which wasn’t very healthy, so kinda negates the whole “superfood” thing in that instance. Hmm.

Is acai treated like just any other fruit in Brazil, or does it still get touted as a bit special and therefore more expensive?

And on a more random note, was that you with the hokey cokey (I didn’t realise thats also called the hokey pokey until Wikipedia told me a few minutes ago) comment just now? If not, thats probably going to be a bit confusing. ;)

Why yes, that was me. I have no idea what a “Hokey Cokey” is… That’s madness! I think you are referring to the “Hokey Pokey”. I suppose Acai is treated normallyl. But I’m not sure how they treat their other fruit, and until the honeymoon is over, I”m not even going to ask!
