Mais Porto Alegre

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Yesterday we walked around the city, well, most of the city. We went to a crafts fair and watched miniature poodle fights. Unfortunately they were moving too fast to capture on film, but next time I’ll try harder. From there we went to towards the center of town. After eating desert, of course. We got a bit turned around so we asked some women with miniature dogs and tights which direction we needed to go. They stopped and chatted with us and tried to find fun things for us to do, since it was Sunday a lot was closed.

Downtown we went to a couple of art museums and had lunch in a bank vault.

I just realized this sounds a bit surreal.

In terms of temperature and foliage, it reminds me a lot of Florida. It is hot, wet and the trees have a lot of epiphytes.

In the eventing we went and watched Brazil play the US in football (soccer). The US was winning for a second, until we scored a goal on
ourselves. Doh.

Again, I took pictures but am a bit lazy about uploading them.
Soon soon.

Today I went to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I got thrashed by some people but they were really nice about it. Also, I got to practice a little
Portuguese which is slowly coming along. It is really nice here. And if I weren’t so tired I would try to be a bit more descriptive.

Tomorrow we are going to get our National IDs. Hopefully that won’t take too long. There is a lot of exploring to do.

We are here: Porto Alegre.

We arrived safely in Brazil. So far we walked around a park, went to a supermarket and had coffee. All pretty normal stuff, but quite exciting since it is on the opposite side of the world from yesterday! The people are a lot friendlier, nobody has shoved or pushed us. We went to a park called Moinhos de Ventos where there were a lot of people drinking yerba matte, or ChimarrĂ£o, as they call it here. a type of green tea.

We also watched people stroll around in tights.

I’ll write some more, and put up some photos, when I’m not exhausted.

ROTFLMAO!
