Some recent events… (I’ve not updated the blog in a while)

So I am taking a full course load at Berkeley.

Well, sort of… I’m not going to get any actual credit. But I don’t particularly need a gold star by my name. One of the really interesting courses is called Geog 110 – Fall 2007: Economic Geography of the Industrial World. If you like that type of thing.  One of the interesting points that he makes is about China, and how they flex their muscles as a threat to the to the dominant hegemon, the United States. It is interesting to think about with regards to their current hacking enterprises.

This week in Porto Alegre is CONCURSO: Experiências em Inovação Social na America Latina e o Caribe sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLA) (Comisión Económica para América Latina (CEPAL) in Spanish)

Oh, and I broke my finger.
Rats.

Did you try signing up for the Bspace thingy some of the lectures mention? I’m listening to history lectures, so didn’t feel the need, but might have been nice to see some of the pics Pafford was talking about. Maybe next term.

Your earlier recommendation for the Berkeley webcast is easily the best link I’ve ever been sent, so cheers again for that. :D

I did briefly try to sign up for bspace. I got sidetracked though, part of the perils of the internet. Which course are you listening to?
You are welcome for the link… I’m glad you are enjoying.
PS. I voted for your blog for the best bjj blog. It kept me from taking notes n class, and it is always good to keep up with the boys in London.

Oops, missed this: I’ve been listening the Ancient Mediterranean lectures by Isabelle Pafford, which is so far the only one I’ve gone all the way through. I emailed her to ask if she’d be running it again next term, but unfortunately she said probably not. :(

I was hoping to be able to move through all the history lectures chronologically, but there’s a big jump from the fall of Rome straight to the Renaissance: would be nice to have something in the middle. Goes well with my J.M. Roberts book, too.

Cheers for the vote: will be interesting to see if Aesopian or Valerie come out on top, as they’ve been shifting between 1st and 2nd all month.

I probably already asked this, but is there some way I can track replies on this? Keep missing responses. ;)

I emailed the staff at the webcasts about having them downloadable in mp4 format, so I could watch the videos on my ipod. The connection here can be spotty so watching them in RealVideo was hard since they kept dropping the stream.

You are welcome for the vote, it is nice to keep up with what is happening at RGA.

I just set up reply tracking.
    :/

I thought I had it turned on!
Turns out I had to install a plug-in to get it to work.

Cool – clearly works, as an email just popped into my inbox telling me about it. Oh, and there’s a little tickbox for followup now. :D

I’ve only listened in audio – I prefer to have it on in the background, though I guess the necessity of visuals depends on the topic?

    Excellent!
I have really enjoyed the Physics for Future Presidents (Physics 10) course.
They do lots of cool experiments, but you definitely need video for those.
