Holiday Update

Tomorrow is Christmas, and it has been a bit hard to get into the spirit, mostly because it is HOT.

There is no snow, and for santa to wear his suit he would have to be loco. But we have been eating a lot of meat to put on the mandatory holiday pounds and are going to go to Rio on the 31st for New Year’s Eve. That should be a lot of fun.

We are going to meet up with some friends from London and see the fireworks on the beach. And hopefully… go surfing. Then we are going to go on our trip to the North and to the Amazon.

I’ll write more when I have some specific things to report.

Speaking of xmas, I finally got my hands on The Gracie Way as a result of all the present giving. Does make me wish I spoke Portuguese, as from what I read, there’s a full-on BJJ history book called ‘Personagens E Historias Do Judo Brasileiro’, by Stanlei Virgilio. At least I’m assuming that’s somehow related to BJJ, rather than just Judo in Brazil: either way, would probably be a cool read.

    Marcelo!
    Cuando vas a visitarnos?!?!
    Espero que pronto.
Gracias por el mensaje, y espero que tengas un seguro y feliz Año Nuevo.

Can, I’ll try and find the book, that sounds really interesting. I’ll see if I can find it. After Carnival I’m going to start doing more Judo. I was doing some here, but I kept getting injured. I won’t be training for basically all of January… so I should be shipshape when I return.
I might try training in some gyms as I travel, maybe.

Injuries are what put me off judo: I tried a formal class at uni, and got injured the second time we drilled. Not the fault of judo as a whole, but nevertheless off-putting.

I’m hoping that if my gf goes back to uni (depends on funding, which is always tough to get), we can both go to judo. I’d hope there’s at least slightly less of a chance getting injured if I’m rolling with her, at least initially. :p

I heard from someone, and I’m not sure if this is entirely true, that there are more injuries in judo in the Olympics than in boxing.
    The ground is hard!
