The “Oh Shit” button.

For a while, I have been harping about how email should have an “Oh Shit” button.

Or also called UnDo or UnSend.

If you have ever sent an email to the wrong person, for example a client instead of your boss, or vice versa, or hit “reply to all” when you meant to only “reply to sender”, then you have had that brief but intense moment of panic when you wish you could “UnSend” the email. Actually, I would be impressed to find anyone who uses email and hadn’t needed this button at some point.

All you need is a lag of a few seconds, time to scan over the email after you hit “Send” and realize that you you had made a colossal mistake. (* You wouldn’t be able to unsend anything, but delay sending the email for a bit. Technologically there is no “unsend” but that is what goes through your mind when you realize that you screwed up. It happens in sequence, first “Oh Shit!” then “UnSend!”)

I think this feature will be coming in Gmail soon, and then when I am an old man I can bore my grandchildren with the story about how I had this idea… and you can ask so-and-so at such-and-such company and they will corraborate my story.

“I coulda been a contenda!”

And now the Wayback machine will hopefully bear witness…

Closest thing I can think of is when somebody at work sends something personal to the entire department, then a short while later, you get “Jane Smith wishes to recall RE: Last night” sheepishly dropping into your inbox. Which kinda makes it worse. ;)

And entirely unrelated but nevertheless awesome:

Wow! It really shows how useful that Foot on Biceps hook can be for your BJJ game … and if you are passing, it should be to that side.

From one of Nicolai Holt’s emails: I don’t know how I got on his mailing list, but glad I did because he keeps sending awesome stuff through like that. Think he runs the BJJ Asia blog.

I’ll try to find the mailing list.
    Thanks!

Ah – I was wrong about the BJJ Asia link, as that looks to be run by somebody called Luke. I think Nicolai trains in Asia, which is why I got confused. ;)

Great blog, though, if you’re looking for info on BJJ in that part of the world:

    Cool.
It looks like a good blog.
Personally, I am sick of all the blogs that are like motivational posters. You know the ones with people rowing and the word “Endurance” and little quote about how, if you are on a good team you can just kick back and let everyone else do the work work. It’s all about the font, I think.

A lot of BJJ blogs are like this. People who like fighting don’t always have the best insights into things like the nature of interpersonal relationships. Or how to make potpourri. Oh well, it is really a pet peeve.

Anyway, I’m always on the lookout for informative BJJ sites.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

I don’t mean to spy but thanks for the complements.

Nicolai is a great resource for video material as well as technical and mental attributes for BJJ. He’s also a beast to roll with and I say that in the best way possible. He’s based in Jakarta and trains under Niko Han at Synergy Jiu-Jitsu. He is also a representative of Cobra Kai Jiu-Jitsu (Marc Laimon).

I hope to bring more informative material to the blog and I’m always up for comments or ideas you’d like me to explore.

    Happy New Year!
    Luke
