The Sun Also Rises.
This is the world’s longest lasting cold. I am really sick of being sick. Every morning I feel like crap. So I’ve been reading.
I just finished reading, “The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway (#45)… I forgot how nice it was to read an easy book. Hemingway is always a treat. This was a good exploration of the “Lost Generation” as well as a study of the mating habits of drunken expatriates. I read it a bunch of years ago, but it was good to re-read it.

Good to see you posting again!
I’ve generally avoided Hemingway, as his personality seems to embody everything I hate about chest-beating hairy machismo. Though then again, Robert Lowell wasn’t exactly pleasant, and I’ve always enjoyed his poetry. Does the macho crap spill into the writing to an irritating degree, or is it bearable?
Then again, I normally just stick to fantasy when I’m not doing academic reading. Currently digging through China Miéville, who’s been relatively interesting (seems to be on a line going from Mervyn Peake through to Gene Wolfe). Bit more respected than the usual fantasy I read, judging by the glowing reviews he’s been getting.

Hi Can!
There is actually a sensibility in some of his works, in the things he doesn’t say… if that makes any sense. Yeah, there is a lot of drunken carousing, but his heroes aren’t the Übermenschen that you might expect.
I’ll have to check out those authors, I’m always looking for new reading.
Of course, finding the books is a bit of a challenge here.
