East African Plains Apes

I was just standing in my kitchen, eating a banana, listening to Economics 113: American Economic History, from University of Berkeley, taught by professor Brad DeLong.  When he said:

In its native state, if you are relatively poor, the climate of Northern New England is none too healthy.  For us, because we are, after all, East African Plains Apes, designed to live in a place where it’s ninety degrees at noon full-time year round.  We’re not supposed to be wearing suit coats, let alone winter coats and gloves.  We’re supposed to be frolicking around in the grasslands, using our height to look at small animals we can hunt and plants we can eat.

This is what I’ve been saying!  Monkey Diet!

I don’t know if we can look at our roots & heritage in order to find out what we should do really. Not even when it comes to diet.
I think I’ll be having some nice mexican food soon and frolicking around the mexcian beaches…

Perhaps you are right. But I think that a diet based on raw foods, specifically fruits and vegetables is probably a good idea.
I’d be interested to know why you feel that way.

I’m jealous of your trip to Mexico.
    Where are you going?

I think I’ll write a short one on that issue soon.

Jealous, nah! Don’t know yet where I should go. What would you recommend for beginer-intermed. surfers?

Well, Puerto Escondido is good, but not in front at Zicatela, instead further down the beach at La Punta is a great place to learn. The waves can be a little bit crowded during peak times, but they are very forgiving compared to the main beach. It is a left point break that is over sand. I think you would like it. Plus the main beach, even if you are just watching, is pretty incredible. It is VERY powerful. I got some of the best waves of my life there, in terms of big barrels.
Also there is a not-so-secret spot south of Puerto that might be worth checking on, but the season is wrong.

    Ey William,
I´m in Puerto Escondido now after a viaje de 45 horas sin pararme.
Cheers for your advice, I´ll check out the beach at la Punta.
Have you been down south the coast in México? I heard that there a further good spots that are less crowded…
    Best wishes for 09!

    Hi Marcelo,
There is a quasi secret spot south of Huatulco, down the coast from Puerto Escondido.
If you are interested, I’ll send you an email with the name of it.
If I put up the name, I will be placed on a surfer hit-list and they will start to hunt me down. It is the best waves I’ve ever surfed.
    Happy 2009!
