Newquay.

Monday, May 28th, 2007

I just returned from Newquay. I went surfing this weekend with some friends. The waves weren’t very good, but it was good to go paddle around. I didn’t actually *stand* on my board very much, but I had a really fun time. I even got to turn once! I haven’t looked through my photos, but if any are good I’ll post them.

Whattaya say Sport?

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Sri Lanka lost the Cricket World Cup.
I am going to Geneva for the Swiss Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Cup.
Oh, and today, my Dad, Susi, Louisa and I are all walking to Central London from Hammersmith. Yesterday we went to Kew Gardens.

Public Transportation Stories.

I just got sized up by a one-year old on the tube. He was watching me eat my sandwich and he looked like he was trying to decide if he could take my sandwich away. For all the talk about bullying in England, this kid was the first one that actually made me uncomfortable.

This kid was a bad-ass. He had a cookie in one hand and was eating a banana peel with the other. I was scared.

books

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

I’m in the middle of about three books right now. I have been getting beaten down by the 100 best novels of all time. It is time to take a break. I actually went to the library today. That is about the most exciting thing I have to report. A trip to the library. I have now wasted 30 seconds of your life. And you won’t get them back.

The weather.

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

It is very windy. The C.H.A.V.s are blowing around the estate like tumbleweeds.

Crazy magnet.

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

I am attracting crazy people like crazy today.
I've had 3 different ones come up to me and start talking in the last half hour.
Lot of people forgot to take their medication today.

The Dark Ages.

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Sometimes in London I walk past someone or see someone on the tube that looks like they stepped out of the Dark Ages. They only difference is the wardrobe. Same face, same expression, same pestilence and violence. It can be a bit spooky.

Burqa King

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

I saw a woman wearing a burqa at the mall today. God I wish I had a better camera on my phone.
She was sitting on a bench in front of Burger King with three (3) Primark bags. She had her eyes covered so I didn’t know if she was watching me or not.
Primark, for you Yanks, is a like a Old Navy without their innocence and joie de vivre.
It has more a Chav (Council Housed And Violent) focus, however it has recently become a bit hipper.

In other super-important and earth-shattering news.
David Beckham was spotted wearing a cardigan at the wedding of Tom Cruise and that Katie Holmes. This is a HUGE deal in this country. If you recall, on January 02, 2006, my brother John and I led the charge of the cardigan in to the fashion world. Now, all of a sudden David Beckham wears one and it is a big deal.
Oh well.

(By the way, I will never write another word about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. I’m actually embarrassed that I have, but I needed a point of reference about the cardigan, I wasn’t name-dropping.)

Leeches are the new … leeches.

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that leeches are going to be hot this spring.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a lot of practitioners get cauliflower ears.
In researching cures for this, summer camp sprung to mind.
Leeches.
Hirudo medicinalis.
For over 2000 years they were used in medicine, entering the "out" list in 1850. Well, leeches are back "in"!
There is a company in the UK, BioPharm, which I have been talking to about buying leeches.
They are in a little aquarium, are only fed once a year and make great pets!
See, my ears have been hurting and I don't want them to blow up like balloons.
Here is an interesting article about medicinal leeches.

Middle Ages here we come!

The tube redux.

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

I just saw an Underground train go by from our flat. The lights from
the inside were lighting up the area surrounding the track. It
looked like an Edward Hopper painting.
